Trinity Alps

Heading to the Trinity Alps for Memorial Day weekend with Hannah and Mr. We are driving up to Weaverville, CA and from there to the Stoney Ridge trail head. A ~7 mile hike will take us to Echo Lake where we will set up camp Saturday Night. Sunday we will hike the 4 lakes loop, ~8 miles, supposedly one of the most beautiful in CA. Back to Echo Lake for the evening and then hike out on Monday morning. Weather looks good, highs of 85 lows of 45 at night.

I was in Colombia two weeks ago with the sockguys for Eterna Primevera.  A tournament featuring the top Colombian teams and a handful of American teams.  We were in Medellin, one of the three large cities.  It’s interesting that, opposite of America, the downtown and all the rich folks live down in the valley, the higher you work your way up the hillside, the poor and poor it gets.

This picture is from a plaza on the hillside.  It was a holiday (easter) so tons of families were out and about.  They served a terrible drink, hot chocolate with squares of cheese in the bottom…

As usual, I was anticipating a fabulous weekend hanging out on the sidelines with GUT and watching the current CUT boys slog it out in our infamously lousy early season performances at Stanford Invite last weekend.

I received a text on my way home from work Friday night.  It was difficult not to keep checking my phone on the rainy drive, I thought of all the hours I’ve spent crossing the country on freeways, mind only halfway engaged on the task at hand.

Since then I’ve experienced waves of emotion.  thankfully the GUT list is full of wiser folks who’ve helped shepherd us newbies through this unintelligible event.

CUT/GUT Alumni weekend has 106 folks confirmed.  Can’t wait to see everyone, this is going to be a hard, but very special year.
